Clinical Supervision
I have been providing supervision to counsellors and others in the helping professions for over 20 years. Some of that supervision experience has been in the workplace context of employee assistance services - individual and group - and some has been in the voluntary sector where I have supervised both brief and longer term work.
I hold an Advanced Diploma in Counselling Supervision (National Counselling Society Accredited), which has helped me to develop a broad and robust sense of robust and flexible counselling supervision which is 'fit for purpose' in an increasingly demanding working environment.
Like my counselling, my supervision offers a range of approaches and interventions to match supervisees' needs. However this service is offered from a clear person-centred base, which builds a professional relationship of trust and confidence, respects my supervisees, and allows them to bring the best of their work and...more important .... the rest!
I am happy to have an initial discussion with potential supervises to discuss the supervision styles I use and what supervises need, whatever their stage of development as therapists. As a lot of my supervision experience has been within the structure of organisations, I also invite my supervises to be aware of the context and systems within which they and their clients work, which I believe adds depth and interest to the work.
In case the above sounds very serious (and supervision has to be sometimes), I also like there to be plenty of humour and laughter within the sessions, so that we remind ourselves we need to enjoy our work too!
One recent supervisee comments:
'My experience of Geoff as a supervisor has been extremely positive. He creates a reflective environment which I find most helpful and nurturing as well as providing that essential space in which I can be completely me . I have appreciate his consistent, insightful and genuine support whilst
recently we worked together through a particularly challenging and unusual piece of work. '

I acknowledge the importance of finding the right fit between Counsellor and Supervisor, so I am happy to provide a 45 minute introductory session free of charge to allow a Supervisee to take a view of my style and approach and how it might work for him/her.
